Two Women Charged with Selling Dangerous Supplement in Argentina

Two women were charged by the Bahía Blanka Fiscal Unit for selling a dietary supplement with harmful substances and a fake stamp from the National Administration of Medicines, Food and Medical Technology (ANMAT). In the case, several customers were affected. The investigation confirmed that the dietary supplement was sold in tablets and was marketed as a fat burner. According to technical analyses, it contained substances dangerous to health, and to avoid complaints, they disguised the harmful nature of the product and used a counterfeit ANMAT stamp to give it an appearance of legality. The charge against V.M.R. (41) is as the presumed author of the crimes of commercialization of medicinal substances dangerous to health, which provides for a sentence of 3 to 10 years in prison, and use of a false official stamp, with a sentence of 1 to 6 years in prison, for two facts in real contest. During the procedures carried out on December 17, 2025, cell phones, a notebook with annotations, and 87 jars of the product called 'Natural Burner' were seized. However, it was later found that the main accused, V.M.R., continued to commercialize the products, which motivated new raids, carried out on February 26 of the current year, also with positive results. The case began with a complaint filed by ANMAT with the Federal Police Division of Crimes Against Public Health. During the research formalization hearing, Federal Guarantees Judge María Gabriela Marrón granted a 60-day deadline to develop the investigation, due to the complexity of the case and pending evidence. Likewise, for the main accused, the magistrate imposed coercive measures such as a ban on leaving the country and the obligation to appear weekly at the headquarters of the Argentine Federal Police (PFA), as well as a ban on using social networks through which the products were commercialized and contact with clients and suppliers of the substances. Regarding her sister, the judge imposed the promise to submit to the process, with the obligation to appear every time she is cited and to inform, through her defense, any change of address, reported the Argentine News Agency. Information that was also provided to the case are the accounts of several of the affected parties, who described different adverse effects from their consumption, among them, fluid retention, dizziness, intense migraines, tachycardia, fainting, and constipation. The supplements sold by the accused. In the case of her sister, V.F.R., it was indicated that from a profile on the Instagram social network, a prohibited substance was promoted and sold under the name 'Natural Burner Viking's, Natural Gym Recipe for 30 tablets'. From the phone number offered as a contact for the purchase of the product, the prosecution managed to identify the owner of the line, who turned out to be the person who commercialized it. The investigation also allowed to identify social media profiles, other related telephone lines and the participation of a second person—the accused's sister—who was accused as a secondary participant after it was established that her home functioned as a delivery point for the substances and as a sender of shipments to the interior of the country.
